  1. COMMENT ON THE READING´BY ALEGRÍA VALDEZ

Marya Mannes essay "Wasteland" is defineately a very interesting piece of work that appeals to the reader´s consicious regarding pollution. Manne´s main point in her work is to make us reflect how the human specie is destroying earth by throwing wastes into the environment and polluting the atmosphere. Through her detailed descrpitions the reader is able to picture how people´s lack or consciousness and extreme indeference is terring apart our world, for it is all contaminated as the result of men´s actions. The author uses different literary evices such as repetition and questioning to emphasize on how is it that people through wastes with no consideration and morality, making her writting be meaningful por it awakes on the reader the consequences of this actions. Futhermore, Marya Mannes uses similies to portray the impact of contamination fox example in paragraph2 where she compares a can with a vessel:
"Who spoil the purity of our ocean beaches with the empty vessels of their thirst"
Personally, i really likes this reading because it alludes to a porblem that we are confronting now a days; moreover, it also suggests how the earth itself is going to take "revenge" of people´s bad habits, someting that is being experienced now a days with global warming. I think the author has a deep impact on the reader because it depicts the reality in which we live, a reality that we pretend to ignore, though it is becoming more dangerous each time.

  3. In this paragraph, mannes is emphasizing on how humans are occupied by the luxuries of life to care about the treasures they are sacrificing in return of these temporary and shortlived luxuries.
